- We are a firm based in northeast Minnesota with more than six decades of experience.
- Recognized innovators with projects such as East High School in our portfolio.
- A team of nearly three dozen architects, engineers, designers and other professionals who can handle any project, from a bathroom remodeling to construction of a new emergency room at a regional hospital.
- Big enough to offer the integrated services of a large firm but small enough to offer you proper attention and care.
- Lots of architectural firms like to talk about their approach. Their signature look. Their style.
- Our style is getting your job done. With flair and grace, absolutely. But make no mistake: we design buildings that meet your needs and reflect your approach.
- We listen. Then we apply our expertise. It starts with you.
Our Leadership Team
AIA, CEO, Principal Architect
Doug has been an architect since 1982. Starting with ARI in 1978 and becoming a Principal in 1984. He has extensive experience in project development and management, overseeing schools, government and municipal work, and commercial buildings. He knows the importance of listening to clients and collaborating with them. It’s an approach that he and other members of the leadership team have instilled throughout ARI. “We listen,” Doug says, “and then we do. That’s what it takes to build a building.” Email me
AIA, Principal Architect
Mark started with the firm in 1981. He applies those same lessons he learned back then as a fresh-out-of-school architect. He believes in the power of the initial discussion, the value of professional expertise applied to clients’ needs and the simplicity of a job done right. As a firm principal since 1985, he ensures that work throughout Architectural Resources Inc. reflects those fundamentals. He believes that the job starts with the very first meeting. He loves a good challenge. He enjoys watching clients smile when the project is completed—and just what they need. Email me
Principal, Project Manager
Scott has been part of the ARI team for over 24 years. He has managed projects for school districts, government agencies, assisted living facilities and commercial businesses. He is adept at guiding projects through the state and federal laws and municipal codes process. Part of his responsibility is staying up to date on the latest regulatory thinking. In addition to working with clients, Scott is a leader within ARI, helping spread knowledge and a clear understanding of the firm’s listen-first approach as a coach and mentor. Email me
P.E., Prinicpal, Professional Engineer
David has been with the firm since 1996 and oversees the engineering department. He brings a can-do approach to project management as well as a keen focus on innovation designed to find clients solutions. These days, technology and systems take on a greater role in building planning, construction and operation. “We like to say that technology needs a room now,” David says. “We’re not just operating from a closet.” That kind of a focus saves customers time and money through advanced lighting design and efficient and versatile electrical, communications and security systems. But it starts with listening to client needs, which are always unique. “There are similar concepts,” David says, “but no two buildings are ever the same.” Email me
AIA, Principal Architect
Ryan brought a decade of project management experience and a strong commitment to Duluth when he joined Architectural Resources Inc. in 2011. He is skilled in all phases of architecture, from schematic design to budget-conscious construction administration. He has developed relationships with clients as well as with local officials overseeing construction in the region—an asset from the design phase to answering questions on the job site. Ryan has been a leader in the local architectural community, serving as associate director of the American Institute of Architects’ Northern Minnesota Chapter and a planning team member of the Energy Design Conference and Expo. CID, Principal, Certified Interior Designer
Katie started with Architectural Resources Inc. in 2002 and earned her certification in interior design in 2005. She sees interior design as the ultimate touch point—where a building impacts people. She works to understand clients’ needs for their spaces. She then coordinates design, materials and construction to provide a comfortable and functional environment. A successful project to her looks good works but performs even better. “We do a really good job that accomplishes that ‘wow’ factor,” she says. “And it works.” Email me
