Challenger Elementary School
Thief River Falls School District and ARI’s working relationship spans over 25 years. Small renovation projects, closing and demolition of older schools, and roof replacements along with multiple remodeling were ongoing. With the community’s support in passing a bond referendum in 2011, the District was ready to renovate their existing school to be more accommodating for the students and community.
Through a design process, ARI worked with the District on the addition and renovation at Challenger Elementary School.
The classrooms and accessory spaces were filled to capacity and the kindergarten classrooms were in areas too small to provide adequate teaching. As part of the solution, a kindergarten wing was constructed on to the existing building. Reconfiguration resulted in less congestion in traffic flow, better utilization of spaces, minimal unoccupied classrooms while bringing the entire building up to today’s education standards.
In September of 2014, the District held an Open House and Dedication Ceremony to share and celebrate, with the entire school and community, a facility that everyone is proud of.
